Elin Torell
Director, International Programs of URI Coastal Resources Center (CRC)
Torell joined CRC in 2002 and has more than 20 years of experience providing technical assistance and leading complex and interdisciplinary projects in Africa and South East Asia. Currently, Torell leads CRC teams in implementing long-term field programs around the world, and she has a special interest in developing strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation systems that foster learning within and across multiple projects. She provides programmatic direction and select technical support within her main areas of expertise: monitoring, evaluation and learning, livelihood development, mainstreaming gender in fisheries, and the integration of population, health, and environment. Torell also currently serves as the gender technical advisor for CRC’s fisheries field programs and the Principal Investigator for the US$ 25 million USAID Philippines Fish Right Program. She is the Deputy Director for the USAID Feed the Future Fish Innovation Lab, where she oversees programming within the Human Impacts Area of Inquiry as well as monitoring, evaluation, and learning. Torell has a Ph.D. in environmental studies and a M.Sc. in Human and Economic Geography.
