Building Partnerships for Action Working Groups
Working Group 1
Research Translation: Accelerating solutions via partners: An Academic-Industry Approach
Title: Future Roadmap of Textiles
Textile industry is a critical sector across the globe. In collaboration across sectors, disciplines and the borders, we collectively have an opportunity to learn from science, re-engineer processes and rethink practices and policies to forge a future path for textiles. This path will accelerate collective understanding, actions and collaborations to reduce microfiber pollution and its impacts on human and environment health and create equitable and sustainable materials, markets and jobs of the future. Join our facilitators in designing an approach that can build capacity and solutions.

Integrating Equity and Justice into Marine Plastic Pollution Research and Action
Equity and justice issues are increasingly recognized as critical dimensions of the marine plastic pollution crisis. However, how to effectively and meaningfully integrate equity principles into our research and practice can be an enormous challenge and has received limited attention. This workshop will facilitate the initial development of concrete steps to promoting equity and justice in MPP research and practice. In this workshop we hope to further expand upon our Policy and Action Roadmap and identify effective approaches of incorporating equity-based actions into MPP research and practice. Particular areas of interests include: 1) incorporate equity in funding (research and actions), 2) consider equity in education (science and advocacy), and 3) promoting the role of civil society (NGOs and community organizations).
